English/Language Arts is one of the four core content areas in Texas public schools. This is the entry-level course for high school students in this subject. Learners’ studies include literary and persuasive writing, with a primary focus on expository writing, along with appropriate grammar, literature and vocabulary development. Reading skills, paragraph writing, and language concepts are stressed. Learners study various types of literature including poetry, drama, short stories, novels, and prose. Composition skills include the paragraph (open-ended response) and multi-paragraph theme essay.
