Language is an ArtThe mission for all of my classes is to provide opportunities for students to grow more skilled in the language arts: Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening.
There will be some days in life when calculations and mathematic equations are not always needed. Some students will go on to pursue careers that do not depend on scientific theories or processes. Historic facts and lessons may not be a daily requirement for success. On the contrary, students will need to read, write, speak, or listen every day for the rest of their lives. They will need these language arts to perform any job or career that they seek. They will need the language arts to build and keep meaningful relationships. Improving our abilities in the four language arts makes us better at life. |
About the Teacher
Working in the Texas Public Education system has been my career, most of it with Friendswood Independent School District. I began in 2008-2009 as an assistant with the PPCD/Early Childhood program at FISD's primary and elementary campuses, and continued to substitute teach that year in all grade levels throughout the district. After spending the following academic year with a neighboring district teaching Eighth Grade Pre-AP English at Santa Fe Junior High, I returned to join the English Department at Friendswood High School and have been working alongside the talented staff and educators here ever since. I am thankful to be part of a great community, and to be working with a campus full of life-long learners. In addition to my teaching responsibilities with the English Department, I am actively involved with the FHS Athletics Department as an Assistant Coach in the Mustang Soccer Program.
Although I am a native of Wyoming, I have lived in and around the Galveston Bay area for most of my life. I attended public school in Friendswood, and graduated from Friendswood High School as a 12-year senior. I continued on from FHS to earn an Interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts degree in Maritime Studies from Texas A&M University at Galveston. I secured my State of Texas Teaching Certification through ACT ◆ Houston and earned the Highly-Qualified designation for the 8th-12th grade English/Language Arts & Reading content area under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2002. I also hold a Texas Education Agency Technology Education Certification for 6th-12th grades.
After chasing her for years, I married the girl of my dreams in 2006. My beautiful wife Mary (also a Friendswood HS alum) works in the Fine Arts Department, teaching art and AP 2-D Design here at FHS. Together we have three awesome children: Hobie, Lana, and Sepp. My family loves the maritime life, culture, and traditions that make the Houston-Galveston Bay area so unique. We seek outdoor adventures every chance we get.
